Live events in the spotlight
Live events, large and small, require a skilled approach to event management.

BECTU has launched a survey for members working in live events as the first step in plans to set up a connected Live Events Network.
*Special offer for new members joining our Live Events section; join by Friday 21 September 2018 and pay £7.50 a month for your first year - a saving of 25% - and £11.25 a month in year two. Enter code A&ELE as the branch name when joining online or using a hard copy form.*
The number of people who work in live events, who are also members of BECTU, is growing; this critical mass now puts the union in a position where an active network can work together to produce a set of ratecards. Live events span an increasing number of occasions, taking in one off concerts, tours, theatre performances, conferences and festivals, in the UK and abroad. Fixed venues also rely on freelance labour.
Survey will run throughout August
“We’re looking forward to getting the network going and to pooling knowledge to produce a set of ratecards which reflect the varying demands of work in this sector. The ratecards will serve as an important guide to the rates freelancers should be quoting. We’ll be urging as many members as possible to contribute to the survey which will run throughout August,” explained Jane Rodger, organising official.
The survey, aimed at members offering the full range of essential technical and production skills, asks members what their biggest industry concerns are and what additional support they’d like to see the union provide. BECTU's public liability insurance, kit cover (Media Freelancer Insurance) and legal services are amongst the current top-rated union benefits.
